Aksel and Miranda Vos have always been an enigma to Windenfel. They first visited the village as young teenagers that looked like they had eloped. Full of life and youthful love, Windenfel took the couple in with open arms. When the townsfolk realized that Aksel and Miranda were dripping with crystal shards that the miners had never seen (even from the Northern Mining Ground), the locals started asking questions. Not comfortable with the pressure, the young couple left.

A few years later, they returned. This time, Miranda’s belly was twice the size, and they carried only the common crystals, although in numerous quantities. They must have traded their rare shards

first then, the villagers assumed. The couple was a bit wiser now. They consulted with the Elders and struck a mutual agreement. Windenfel would let Aksel, Miranda, and their coming baby stay, on the grounds that they finance the Elders’ plan of expanding the Lakeside station into a full-blown harbor.

Sure enough, within weeks Miranda had given birth to a healthy robust baby boy, whom they named Lionel. The small family of three happily lived in Windenfel for a year, until Aksel and Miranda’s crystals reserves grew thin. When they were down to their last pieces, they left Lionel at the Regenfall home and gave the last of their stash to Louisa and Cael (mind you,

each was as big as an adult’s fist). The official story they gave the Elders was that they would continue their important work of studying Eizper crystals.

Louisa, who had become somewhat of Miranda’s confidant, secretly suspected the Vos meant they would continue their important work of studying how to steal rare Eizper crystals. Miranda sometimes dropped hints as to the real source of the couple’s wealth. Louisa’s speculations grew when Aksel and Miranda sent the toddler Lionel an exquisite gun with instructions to avenge them. There was no more word from Aksel and Miranda Vos after that mysterious gift, if indeed the gun could be called that.
